In this module we show how to rear healthy, good quality chicks from the time they hatch to when they are ready to begin training. Topics include the first 72 hours after hatch, brooders, temperature and humidity, dealing with unretracted yolk sacs, rearing junior chicks, DNA sexing, diets, problem chicks, identification and ringing, breeding records and pedigrees. We explain how and when to foster chicks on to imprint parents, placing chicks with natural pairs, multiple broods and feeding regimes.
